Em 13 de julho é comemorado o Dia Mundial do Rock. Apesar de ter sua certidão de batismo ainda perdida, com local e datas supostos, o rock, esse senhor de aproximadamente 70 anos, é um antiórfão de muitos pais reclamando a cria por testes de DNA. Sua morte foi decretada algumas vezes, sempre depois de ter sido visto cabisbaixo e, sobretudo, a partir dos anos 2000, quando pareceu perder-se definitivamente em uma depressão existencial. Mas eram meras crises de identidade. A chegada internética e confusa dos 50, a perda de fãs dos 60 e o saudosismo melancólico que o faz seguir aos 70. Importante é que o rock não morreu e que seu passado, de tão avassalador, construído com memórias afetivas tão marcantes, é definitivo mesmo quando ele diz estar olhando para o futuro.
“Meu filho vai se chamar Rock”, teria dito o pai, seja ele quem for, ao escrivão. Uma boa forma de homenagear Chick Webb e Ella Fitzgerald, que em 1937 (muito antes de existir guitarras e baixos elétricos) gravaram Rock in For Me. “Então, você não vai satisfazer a minha alma com o rock and roll”, dizia a letra.
Ike Turner, que morreu reclamando a paternidade da criança por ter gravado Rocket 88 em 3 de março de 1951, o que seria a primeira gravação no formato banda e no ritmo do gênero, apontava para Elvis Presley com os olhos vermelhos. Ike dizia que Elvis havia se apoderado do menino, filho de pais negros, ainda na maternidade para vesti-lo com boas roupas e apresentá-lo ao mundo como seu. Um pouco de exagero, evidentemente. Elvis jamais disse ser o pai, apenas ser o rei.
Um existencialista precoce, o rock só tinha cerca de 10 anos de idade (a contar de 1951) quando começou a falar com uma eloquência preocupante. Foi assustador ver o garoto sempre tão entregue às festas mundanas de Roll Over Beethoven e Tutti Frutti aparecer sisudo dizendo coisas como “saindo do oeste selvagem / deixando as cidades que mais amo / pensei já ter visto de tudo / até entrar em Nova York / pessoas se espalhando pelo chão / edifícios indo até o céu”. Tio Bob Dylan o ensinava, a partir daí, a vestir a roupa que quisesse e a andar com quem desejasse desde que jamais se acostumasse com a podridão do mundo a seu redor.

3º | The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
(David Bowie)
O Melhor disco de Bowie é este, de 1972. Ele vive aqui a persona de Ziggy Stardust, uma espécie de mensageiro das galáxias. Rock and roll com ficção científica em uma época em que ninguém fazia isso.
4º | The Dark Side of the Moon
(Pink Floyd)
Syd Barret, o mentor da banda, já havia saído havia cinco anos, mas foi refletindo muito sobre sua provável loucura que o Pink Floyd fez sua obra maior, em 1973.
5º | Highway to Hell
(AC/DC)
Álbum de 1979, o último com o vocalista Bon Scott antes de sua morte, está na lista dos 200 discos definitivos do Rock and Roll Hall of Famehttps:
6º | Led Zeppelin
(Led Zeppelin)
A estreia é aqui, em 1969, com o disco que trazia Dazed and Confused. Sim, eles furtariam muito material dos bluesmen para fazer suas músicas, mas não dá para negar a genialidade de Jimmy Page e Robert.
7º | Pet Sounds
(Beach Boy)
O 11º disco do Beach Boys iria mudar tudo e se tornar uma nova referência, inspirada em Rubber Soul, dos Beatles. Foi lançado em 1966.
8º | Exile on Main Street
(Rolling Stones)
Demorou alguns anos, mas a justiça foi feita e este disco dos Stones de 1972, gravado no Sul da França depois que ele decidiram fugir dos impostos britânicos. Um dos maiores da história do grupo.
9º | London Calling
(The Clash)
O Clash fez uma manobra perigosa, mas deu certo. Em 1979, veio com esse álbum diferente de sua própria estética, com muita influência de ska, funk, soul e reggae.
10º | The Velvet Underground and Nico
(The Velvet Underground and Nico)
Em uma direção mais experimental, a banda, com participação da cantora Nico, gravou em 1966 um álbum transformador.
