A startup, fundada por Karim Pichara, Matías Muchnick e Pablo Zamora, foi avaliada em US$ 1,5 bilhão após novo aporte

A NotCo, foodtech chilena que utiliza inteligência artificial para criar receitas de produtos plant-based, se tornou um unicórnio. A empresa recebeu um aporte de US$ 235 milhões em uma rodada série D liderada pela Tiger Global, chegando ao valor de mercado de US$ 1,5 bilhão.
A rodada atraiu novos investidores, como o automobilista Lewis Hamilton, o tenista Roger Federer, o fundador do Twitter, Jack Dorsey, e Joe Gebbia, cofundador do Airbnb. Entre os fundos, DFJ Growth Fund, ZOMA Lab e The Social Impact Foundation passam a integrar agora o quadro societário da NotCo. Jeff Bezos, fundador da Amazon, é uma personalidade que investiu na empresa há alguns anos.
“Todos nós compartilhamos a mesma visão sobre a capacidade de Giuseppe [a inteligência artificial] de tornar a adesão aos produtos plant-based cada vez mais ampla a vida das pessoas, em um ritmo rápido, focando no sabor, sustentabilidade e lançando produtos em várias categorias ao mesmo tempo”, diz Matias Muchnick, CEO e fundador da NotCo, no anúncio.
NOVO FOCO: A EXPANSÃO GLOBAL
A NotCo, que já atua na América Latina e América do Norte, agora se prepara para expandir para a Europa e Ásia. A empresa, fundada há cinco anos, cria produtos à base de plantas nas categorias de laticínios e carne.

No Brasil, a NotCo chegou em março de 2019 e está, atualmente, concentrada nas regiões Sul e Sudeste. Agora, o desafio é expandir para pequenos e grandes varejistas em todo o país. A companhia tem e-commerce próprio e também possui produtos à venda na Amazon, Mercado Livre e Pão de Açúcar.
A empresa chegou nos Estados Unidos recentemente, mas os planos são de tornar o país responsável por 50% do faturamento global da NotCo em 2022. A foodtech contará com um especialista no mercado americano de alimentos — Danny Meyer, fundador da rede de fast-food Shake Shack. Meyer investiu através do fundo Enlightened Hospitality Investments (EHI), do qual é sócio.
O USO DE INTELIGÊNCIA ARTIFICIAL NA ALIMENTAÇÃO
A NotCo utiliza a inteligência artificial Giuseppe para facilitar na criação de receitas dos alimentos. A tecnologia auxilia na substituição de ingredientes de origem animal pelos à base de plantas.
Ervilha, óleo de coco, óleo de girassol, fibra de chicória e extrato de abacaxi são alguns dos ingredientes utilizados pela companhia no NotMilk, leite à base de vegetais. Já na NotMayo, maionese plant-based, a empresa utiliza lima, vinagre de uva, grão de bico, óleo de canola e sementes de mostarda. A combinação de ingredientes comuns com outros mais raros — como fibra de chicória — são resultados do uso do Giuseppe.

“Quantos anos demoraria para qualquer pessoa, até mesmo um chef, unir tudo isso para chegar a uma consistência muito parecida com a do leite?”, questiona Ciro Tourinho, líder da operação do Brasil da NotCo, em entrevista à StartSe.
Agora, a empresa estuda terceirizar o algoritmo do Giuseppe — isto é, permitir que outras empresas também possam utilizá-lo em suas operações. Recentemente, a NotCo abriu uma vertical B2B, que visa fazer negócios com outras empresas.
“Seria muito injusto mantermos o algoritmo apenas para nós. A expectativa é que grandes indústrias de alimentos possam ter produtos ‘Powered by NotCo’, assim como smartphones também utilizam peças de empresas concorrentes”, afirma Ciro Tourinho.
