Zhao Lijian, o porta-voz do Ministério das Relações Exteriores da China, não vê problema algum em mentir. Dizem que Confúcio dizia que a mentira estava liberada desde que a verdade não prejudique a família ou a nação. Sendo assim, o que Zhao diz e escreve faz todo sentido.
Na China, o povo não faz ideia do que seja Twitter. Aqueles que sabem precisam dar mil e uma piruetas para burlar os bloqueios oficiais aplicados na internet chinesa, pois, por lá, o serviço é proibido. Zhao, por sua vez, é tuiteiro. Sua conta na rede social – que na data desta coluna soma quase um milhão de seguidores – é a plataforma pela qual ele dá o tom da agressividade da nova diplomacia chinesa. Por meio dela, o porta-voz expande para além de seu país as versões que o Partido Comunista Chinês quer apresentar de si, as ofensas que são proferidas contra os outros, as ameaças e, sobretudo, as mentiras. Muitas mentiras.
Em seu briefing para imprensa, ele retomou a tese de que o laboratório da base militar de Fort Detrick, no estado americano do Maryland, seria a fonte da origem da pandemia de coronavírus. Retomou. Desde o ano passado – quando incomodado por tentativas de investigação sobre os momentos iniciais da pandemia –, o regime Chinês empurra para os Estados Unidos a culpa da origem da Covid-19.
Não é de hoje que a China tenta emplacar a história. Em 2020, Zhao já havia sacado da cartola a teoria de que o vírus letal havia vazado das instalações militares americanas. Até um suposto surto de pneumonia teria ocorrido nos Estados Unidos em decorrência do incidente “censurado” pelo governo americano.
O cara é tão maluco que no conto dele, ele trata uma democracia em pleno funcionamento como se fosse um espelho da sua ditadura. Na China, o governo censura a imprensa. Nos Estados Unidos, a imprensa censura o presidente. Aliás, o Twitter que não se abala com as traquinagens de Zhao baniu o então presidente Donald Trump.
Mas vamos voltar à origem do vírus. Em junho de 2020, Li Yang, o cônsul-geral da China no Rio de Janeiro, que tem espaço cativo no Jornal O Globo, colaborou para irrigar a mesma estratégia de desinformação. Seu artigo merece atenção. O lobo guerreiro não só vocifera contra os Estados Unidos, como também reabre as feridas da relação da China com o vizinho Japão. Li reproduz caninamente os ataques proferidos anteriormente por Zhao e alguns embaixadores, entre eles o representante da China em Washington, D.C.
Fort Detrick é o epicentro da estratégia de desinformação chinesa para desviar os esforços pela busca da origem da pandemia que já matou 4,1 milhões de pessoas. A instalação militar abriga alguns dos laboratórios mais modernos do país, que são usados para manipular alguns dos vírus mais letais já conhecidos, como o ebola. Não há segredo algum que até 1969, a base abrigava um programa de guerra biológica, que fora encerrado pelo então presidente Nixon. Desde então, a unidade seguiu como um centro de excelência em pesquisa biomédica. Em resumo. Deixou de ser um centro de guerra biológica para se tornar um centro de biodefesa. Algo que faz toda a diferença.
Em 2019, o Centro de Controle e Prevenção de Doenças (CDC, conforme a sigla em inglês), interditou os laboratórios de Fort Detrick por suspeitas de falhas em sistemas de filtragem das instalações. Em março de 2020, os laboratórios de nível 3 e 4 voltaram a funcionar sem restrições.
O evento foi uma dádiva para o regime chinês construir a sua teoria para desviar a origem dos vírus.
Não é a primeira vez que Fort Detrick é o pano de fundo para campanhas de informação. Em 1983, a então União Soviética já cambaleava frente ao Ocidente, mas não largava o osso. A inteligência comunista colocou para rodar as engrenagens de sua máquina de desinformação. Os soviéticos plantaram a história de que o vírus da Aids havia sido criado nos Estados Unidos, justamente em Fort Detrick.
A mentira foi repetida tantas vezes que passados quase 40 anos, ainda provoca dúvidas em muitos incautos. No ano passado, um brasileiro, aluno de doutorado, quase escreveu essa bobagem em sua tese. Segundo contam, ele foi salvo por esta coluna.
Entre as ações deliberadas de desinformação lideradas pelo porta-voz chinês Zhao Lijian estão a publicação de fotos trucadas para acusar a Austrália de crimes de guerra e as constantes alegações de que foram encontradas amostras de Sars-CoV-2, o causador da Covid-19, em carregamentos de carnes provenientes da Austrália e até mesmo do Brasil. Uma forma descarada de pressionar os críticos.
Com muito, mas muito mais dinheiro no bolso, a China copia a receita da falida URSS em construir versões da história que confundem e sobrevivem ao tempo. Mas como dizem que Confúcio disse, a mentira é lícita quando é para proteger a nação. No caso o regime e sua pouca reputação.
