A Nação está refém do inconcebível descaso de Jair Bolsonaro pela vida e pela saúde pública, quando, como ocorre em qualquer país normal, deveria ser bem liderada por seu presidente no curso da mais letal emergência sanitária que se abateu sobre o Brasil desde 1918.
Nesta hora grave, a postura insultuosa de Bolsonaro diante das aflições dos brasileiros deve ser vista como uma traição ao juramento por ele prestado sobre a Constituição ao tomar posse como presidente da República. Aquele que deveria ser o líder de todos os esforços nacionais para acabar com um flagelo que há dez longos meses exaure o espírito de milhões de seus compatriotas, ao contrário, é o primeiro de uma penca de sabotadores desses esforços. E com indisfarçável satisfação.
O País chega a 2021 perto da marca de 195 mil mortos pela covid-19. Jamais tantos brasileiros morreram em tão pouco tempo devido a uma só causa. Angustiada, a Nação assiste ao início da campanha de vacinação contra o novo coronavírus em cerca de 50 países, alguns dos quais em condições econômicas mais adversas que as do Brasil, sem saber quando e como será vacinada. É como se aos que aqui vivem não bastassem as provações já impostas pela pandemia, agregando-se um presidente mequetrefe ao longo rol de infortúnios.
No sábado passado, ao ser questionado por um jornalista se sentia a pressão de ver outros países iniciarem a vacinação de seus nacionais, Bolsonaro reagiu dizendo “não dar bola para isso”, pois “ninguém o pressiona para nada”. É este presidente à prova de “pressões” – até mesmo a pressão para salvar vidas – que, como se não tivesse múltiplas crises para debelar, encontrou tempo para jogar futebol, debochar de adversários políticos, criticar os laboratórios que fabricam as vacinas e ofender a ex-presidente Dilma Rousseff, entre outros absurdos. Parece claro que Jair Bolsonaro está mais preocupado em desviar as atenções do País de sua irremediável incompetência do que em viabilizar o início de uma campanha de vacinação sem a qual mais brasileiros vão morrer e mais preso a este pesadelo estará o País.
Bolsonaro é um presidente sui generis. Em sua cruzada antivacina, destoa até mesmo de líderes aos quais sempre demonstrou ter profunda admiração, como o presidente dos Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, e o primeiro-ministro de Israel, Binyamin Netanyahu. Ambos não foram tão longe a ponto de questionar a segurança das vacinas e mobilizaram seus governos para conseguir o maior número de doses para seus nacionais no menor tempo possível. Líderes de direita e de extrema direita com os quais o presidente brasileiro mantém afinidades ideológicas – como os primeiros-ministros do Reino Unido, Boris Johnson, e da Hungria, Viktor Orbán, também fizeram planos para adquirir vacinas.
No início da segunda metade de seu mandato, Jair Bolsonaro ainda não tem um plano para amparar os desvalidos que deixarão de receber o auxílio emergencial, não tem um plano para destravar a economia e gerar empregos e, não menos importante, não tem um plano para vacinar toda a população. Não há saída possível para a crise que paralisa o Brasil que não passe por uma rápida e eficaz imunização contra a covid-19.
A Nação vê-se perdida em meio à falta de informações ou à comunicação vacilante das ditas autoridades. As duas vacinas mais próximas dos brasileiros, a Coronavac, fruto da parceria entre o Instituto Butantan e a chinesa Sinovac Life Science, e o imunizante da AstraZeneca e da Universidade de Oxford, que será produzido no Brasil pela Fiocruz, ainda são meras promessas. Até o momento, não se sabe exatamente qual a eficácia da primeira. E erros metodológicos atrasaram a conclusão dos testes de fase 3 da segunda.
Não se esperava que o Brasil fosse um dos primeiros países a vacinar seus cidadãos. Afinal, havia países mais desenvolvidos com condições de sair na frente em suas campanhas de vacinação. Tampouco condiz com a grandeza do País não haver sequer previsão segura do início da imunização por aqui. E não há porque Bolsonaro nunca quis que houvesse.
